This application is for individuals who have completed all the requirements for their three (3)-year interim certificate including those who hold a Content Specialist, Non-Traditional or an Out-of-State Interim Certificate and are now seeking their five (5)-year renewable certificate.
Important: All required documents must be included in one packet for an application to be considered complete.
- Checks and money orders are to be made payable to the Idaho Department of Education
- Credit cards are not accepted at this time
- Payment is non-refundable
- Cash in the exact amount will be accepted for walk-ins
See your interim certificate for conditions and provide the appropriate supporting documentation, this may include transcripts, Institutional Recommendation, test scores, etc.

Out-of-State Candidates
- Idaho Comprehensive Literacy Course/Assessment
- Teaching Mathematical Thinking transcripts (if indicated as a condition on the three-year interim certificate)
Non-Traditional Program Candidates (Completers of ABCTE, TFA, CSI or LCSC):
- The signed District/Charter and Mentor Recommendation for Non-Traditional Completers (ABCTE, TFA, CSI or LCSC)
- Idaho Comprehensive Literacy Course/Assessment
- Teaching Mathematical Thinking transcripts (if indicated as a condition on the three-year interim certificate)
- CSI, LCSC and TFA candidates must include an Institutional Recommendation
Alternative Authorization – Content Specialist
- Completion of traditional program, please include the following:
- Institutional Recommendation, or Out-of-State Certificate
- Official Transcripts
- Idaho Comprehensive Literacy Course/Assessment
- Teaching Mathematical Thinking transcripts (if indicated as a condition on the three-year interim certificate)
- Completion of ABCTE
- ABCTE Professional Teaching Certificate
- The signed District/Charter and Mentor Recommendation for Non-Traditional Completers (ABCTE, TFA, CSI or LCSC)
- Idaho Comprehensive Literacy Course/Assessment
- Teaching Mathematical Thinking transcripts (if indicated as a condition on the three-year interim certificate)
The Idaho Comprehensive Literacy Course (ICLC) is offered through university providers at a variety of venues throughout Idaho. The Idaho Comprehensive Literacy requirement can be fulfilled by completing and passing an in-person or online course, or by successful completion of the Idaho Comprehensive Literacy Assessment. Mathematical Thinking for Instruction/Teaching Mathematical Thinking
The Mathematical Thinking for Instruction (MTI)/Teaching Mathematical Thinking (TMT) is a three-credit course that gives Idaho teachers and administrators the best practices and teaching strategies they need to help all students succeed in math.
