Information and Communication Technology is the study and ethical practice of facilitating learning and improving performance by creating, using, and managing applicable technological processes and resources.
The Idaho State Department of Education and Discovery Education have partnered together to broaden student horizons and improve academic achievement by providing digital content to classrooms across the state. Through a unique combination of digital resources and professional development, this partnership supports educators in Idaho as they create 21st century learning environments that engage and inspire students to reach their highest potential.
Discovery Education is the leading provider of standards-based digital resources for the classroom. Discovery Education STREAMING PLUS captures the minds and imaginations of students by tapping into their natural curiosity and desire to learn.
All Idaho schools receive Discovery Education STREAMING PLUS with:
- Digital learning objects that cover all curriculum areas to meet Idaho Content Standards
- Multimedia resources like videos, high quality images, math tutorials, encyclopedia articles, and an interactive atlas
- Teacher guides, lesson plans, and writing prompts
- STEM Connect: a captivating resource connecting students to STEM curriculum and career development
Professional Development Support:
- Instructional strategies that help Idaho's teachers effectively integrate digital content in the classroom
- Access to the Discovery Educator Network (DEN), a global educator community of over 125,000 members who are enthusiastic about teaching with digital media, sharing resources and learning together
The Idaho Microsoft Imagine Academy* is a special project designed to provide 21st Century foundational technology job skills for Idaho students and citizens as well as and Certiport certifications proving competency in those skills.
Academy courses offer a wide variety of free on-line information technology education in software programs such as Word and Excel for Office 2010 or 2013. The courses also offer instruction in Powerpoint, Sharepoint, OneNote, Access, Outlook and Office 365, plus more sophisticated technical courses that can make graduates IT job-ready in some cases.
For students in grades 9-12 looking to build a resume, certifications that demonstrate knowledge or mastery of those programs are looked upon favorably by many employers since they provide proof of skills attained.
The instructional programs also are offered through many of Idaho’s public libraries to help those adults wishing to improve their workforce opportunities and skills. The courses are designed for either self-paced or teacher-led instruction.
Registration for schools or public library site licenses
In order to formally commit to participation as an Idaho Microsoft Imagine Academy provider and receive a site license (for each school building/career center or public library that will be offering the program), Step 1 is to complete the Registration Form.
You must then sign-in to become a Microsoft Imagine Academy Member.

Idaho Service Provider Application
Idaho Service Provider Applications will be accepted by the State Department of Education at any time. Please allow approximately two weeks (or ten work days) for courses to be visible on the site from when the electronic application is received. Approval, review, and rating of curriculum is not required as quality is the responsibility of the originating district's school board or local education agency (LEA).

One way we can accomplish this as a state is to provide access to a wide variety of high-quality digital learning. My Idaho Courses allows students, parents, and educators to access digital courses offered by Idaho schools, colleges and universities, Idaho Digital Learning Academy and more, with the assurance that the courses are taught by Idaho-certified teachers and meet Idaho's high academic standards.
From Bear Lake to Bonner counties, students across Idaho can have access to the courses they need, even if it is not readily available in their home district.
